Büyükçekmece is a district located to the west of Istanbul. Büyükçekmece is surrounded by Beylikdüzü and Esenyurt districts to the east, Silivri district to the west, Çatalca and Arnavutköy districts to the north, and Marmara Sea to the south. The surface area is 196 km². Until 1987, it was the sub-province center of Çatalca and became neighbor to the Avcılar and Küçükçekmece districts until the administrative restructuring in 2009.
